Consultation on Cross River Cycling
Transport for London (TfL) has launched an eight-week consultation setting out proposals to allow cyclists to cross the Thames safely and accessibly as part of our long-standing commitments surrounding the Silvertown Tunnel. While developing the scheme we considered whether cyclists could use the tunnel, however after careful consideration we decided that for safety reasons walking and cycling would not be permitted.
Alongside the Mayor, we are committed to providing an alternative cross-river cycling service and the feedback from this consultation will help us shape and plan the service.
Proposals
We are consulting on the operational elements of the river crossing service, to help us understand how cyclists want the service to run and to ensure we develop an efficient, convenient, and safe service for users. We are proposing a bus shuttle service and we are also asking for views on the development of a future ferry shuttle service.
We intend to use your feedback from this consultation to inform our final plans for how the service will look and to ensure we deliver a river-crossing solution that works for cyclists. The final decision on the proposals will be taken once the consultation report is complete and the next steps agreed. We will publish our final consultation report later this year and notify all respondents to the consultation and stakeholders when we do so.
